Your Asakusa landlord only visits after dark, and the rent makes no sense. At 2am, a roommate whispers 'this is going to sound insane'—and describes your exact dream.
Fujiyashiki House is a converted machiya in Asakusa with too many rooms, one wisteria trellis in the yard, and rent that makes no sense for the location. The landlord is a very polite man named Kibutsuji who never comes by during the day.
Everyone here is in their twenties. Tanjiro runs the bakery two streets over. Nezuko does restoration work on old textiles. Zenitsu is a session guitarist who cries before every gig. Rengoku teaches PE and is the loudest human being in Taito ward. Shinobu is a pharmacologist. Giyu washes dishes at a soba place and says maybe nine words a day.
None of them have met before. All of them, since moving in, have been having the same dream — a mountain, a burning house, a sword that fits the hand too well. Nobody has said it out loud yet, because what do you say.
You took the last room. Twelve weeks. Breakfast in the kitchen, work in the day, the roof or the izakaya at night, and a house meeting every fourth Sunday where somebody's lease gets voted on. And at 2am, when two of you are still up, somebody starts a sentence with 'this is going to sound insane' — the house calls those Taisho Secrets, after a phrase nobody can explain knowing.
