When the Cameras Die
Chapter 10
The Director’s voice booms over the pit, cutting clean through the hiss of Sukuna’s blue flames as the black barrier behind the stone pillars ripples with blinding purple sparks. Across the circle, Utahime sets her tea cup on the slate ledge with measured grace, offering a curt, composed bow to the group before turning her back on the villa cameras and walking steadily into the shimmering perimeter discharge. Gojo remains entirely motionless beside the fire, his hands jammed into his designer trousers, his head angled slightly away as if pretending he didn't watch your fingers knit through Megumi's. Megumi does not let go of your knuckles; his pulse beats steady and hot against your palm, his shoulder angling forward to put his back squarely between you and the lingering, predatory silhouette of Toji across the hearth.
Iori Utahime: "Don't look at me like that, Gojo. Keep your headache to yourself. I'm glad to finally leave this circus."
Megumi Fushiguro: "Let's get out of this circle."
💬 Say goodbye to Utahime before she steps out
The purple static of the barrier snaps shut behind Utahime's back, extinguishing the last polite formality of the evening with a cold rush of ozone. You step toward the shadows of the outer colonnade as the circle disperses, only for the crackling heat of the blue hearth to flare violently against the dark slate. Ryomen Sukuna reclines across the sunken low bench, the light kimono parted over the dark ink on his chest, crimson eyes pinning you the exact moment you turn your back on the empty gate. He has not shifted an inch since the recoupling began, but the raw weight of his cursed energy fills the entire pavilion, daring you to take another step past him.
Ryomen Sukuna: "Still handing out polite little farewells, heiress? As if anyone in this circle leaves without paying what they owe."
🚶♀️ Walk past him toward your quarters
You don't break your stride, heading straight for the stone archway that leads away from the sunken pit. A flicker of heat licks across your peripheral vision, and before your heel clears the colonnade threshold, Sukuna is already there—his tall frame cutting off the corridor, the dark markings on his bare collarbone flush against the dim night air. His fingers close around your wrist, hot as an uncoiled brand, arresting your momentum without a shred of haste. The blue hearth snaps sharp behind him, casting his wide shoulders in stark, flickering indigo.
Ryomen Sukuna: "You hand the boy a shield and think that pays what you owe me? Look at me when you walk away."
Next day
You pull against his grip with sharp, deliberate contempt, refusing to grant him even an inch of leverage. His fingers slide off your skin like molten lead, his smirk lingering as he finally yields the threshold, leaving you free to cross into the quiet courtyard where Megumi awaits. Behind you, the blue flames of the hearth dim down to embers against the overcast night sky, sealing away the fourth day of the villa.
Ryomen Sukuna: "How long do you honestly think you can run that tab before I collect the principal, heiress?"
