Solo Leveling: Rise of the 10th Hunter Part 2

Chapter 19

Sung Jinwoo: "Let him burn his fuel. He won't touch eight hundredths of a second."

You tell Jinwoo you'll be right back and run and grab him a cup of tea and something to eat to replenish his own energy. You give the snacks to Jinwoo and resume your position on the armrest pulling jinwoo's elbow to a more comfortable position. "Call his final time, Jinho." To Baek: "Bare your teeth Baek!" To Liu: "you think your dao can beat him?"

You slide off the wide armrest just long enough to cross the penthouse parquet, returning with a steaming ceramic cup and a plate of fresh honeyed pastries before sinking back into place against Jinwoo's side. His fingers wrap around the warm glaze of the cup as your hand guides his forearm into a smoother rest against your thigh, his dark eyes tracking every shift of your throat with calm, absolute ownership. Below, the final gate sensor chimes with a heavy digital pulse, locking Choi's run into the holographic board in glaring amber numerals. Across the staging chalk, Baek Yoon-ho's shoulders broaden as golden predatory irises flash beneath the arena floodlights, his boots locking onto the rim of Gate Two.

Yoo Jinho: "Final split locked! Guild Master Choi clears Gate One at 0.52 seconds—well short of Hyung-nim's mark, Boss!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Keep me well-fed, Yasmin. The suitors might actually need me to demonstrate a second time if this is their pace."

Baek Yoon-ho: "You won't have to ask twice for fangs. Watch the split when beast mana hits the floor."

Liu Zhigang: "My dao answers whenever you tire of shadow baselines, darling. Let the tiger bleed first."

To Jinwoo with light laughter "Absolutely, honey, Do what you must as I definitely will enjoy the view." To Zhigang: "That's cute smirk. I'' never tire of shadows because they are my shield and my home, darling. Let your blades speak for themselves."

The warm steam of the tea curls between you and Jinwoo, his fingers brushing the back of your hand where it rests over his arm before he takes another measured sip. Along the balustrade, Liu Zhigang slowly slides one curved dao half an inch from its lacquered sheath, the polished steel catching the overcast daylight with an irritated, theatrical gleam. Baek Yoon-ho ignores both of them completely, his massive boots crushing the chalk boundary line as golden beast mana ripples in heavy waves across his shoulders. With a hollow roar of pressurized air, the hydraulic descent chute opens beneath Baek's feet, plunging the White Tiger Guild Master straight into the subterranean depths as the digital clock resets to zero.

Sung Jinwoo: "I'll make sure there's plenty to watch, Yasmin."

Liu Zhigang: "A sharp tongue, darling. Let's see if your tiger's claws can match your tone."

Baek Yoon-ho: "Enough talk. Drop the barrier and start the clock—I'm taking that ballot."

Yoo Jinho: "Gate Two dropping now! Baek Yoon-ho begins his run!"

"Show them beastmode, Baek! I dont think they are ready for that!" To Jinho: "Keep your eyes on the split." To Hae-In: "Any anomalies or anything to worry about?" Lean in and wwhisper to Jinwoo something that makes him blush and give the most beautiful smile at you as he looks at the camera to see if he was caught blushing.

You lean down until your lips brush the cool line of Jinwoo's jaw, murmuring into his ear with a low, deliberate purr that catches him entirely off guard. A sudden, unmistakable wave of heat climbs his throat to tint the edge of his cheekbones, his mouth parting into a breathless, stunning smile before his dark eyes snap toward the hovering broadcast lenses to see if the camera caught him folding. Across the balustrade, Woo Jinchul's hand tightens rigidly over the polished brass rail, his sunglasses fixing on the flush painting the Shadow Monarch's face. Below on the arena telemetry, Baek Yoon-ho's beast mana explodes in a concussive shockwave that rattles the glass floor beneath your boots, pinning the second chamber split in blinding white numerals.

Cha Hae-in: "Not a flicker of drift on the perimeter wards, Yasmin—clean air all the way down."

Yoo Jinho: "Baek just tore through the primary bulkhead at 0.19 seconds! He's gunning straight for that elimination ballot!"

Sung Jinwoo: "You really have no shame in front of seventy million lenses, do you?"

The fans definitely caught his big smile and him blushing. To Jinwoo in playful banter: "Keep your eyes on me, Jinwoo so you can see I have no shame at all when it comes to you and I LOVE that i can make you blush back." To Jinho: "Call Baek's Chamber two split!" To Hae-in, tighten the southern ward line. leave no cracks."

Jinwoo's low chuckle vibrates right against the fabric of your combat pants where his forearm stays anchored, his dark eyes refusing to turn toward the prying drone optics hovering along the perimeter rail. At the master deck, Yoo Jinho's fingers slap across the split-chronometer, throwing Baek's snarling holographic telemetry directly into the centre of the room. Across the balustrade, Cha Hae-in taps the hilt of her rapier once against the stone flooring, sending a pulse of luminous gold mana rippling south to weave seamlessly with your own violet ward line. Woo Jinchul's gloved hand stays locked onto his Association ledger, his dark glasses reflecting the glaring red numbers on the board as Liu Zhigang merely folds his arms and watches the two of you with narrow, calculating amusement. The sub-level proving ground groans as Baek detonates the reinforced bulkheads below, leaving Jinwoo's 0.08-second baseline untouchable at the very top of the ranking.

Sung Jinwoo: "Keep looking like that and I won't even need the shadows to blind them, Yasmin."

Yoo Jinho: "Baek Yoon-ho hits Chamber Two at 0.38 seconds! Still well behind the Monarch, Boss, but he's chewing through steel!"

Cha Hae-in: "Southern perimeter layered double-thick. Nothing slips past my rapier or your wards today, Yasmin."

"Told you you'd look only at me." To Jinho: baek's slowing down, call the final!" Check on Il-hwan again this time bringing warm water to prevent sugar spikes the check the southern wards with Hae-in, and making jinwoo aware.

You step lightly off the armrest to set a steaming cup of warm water into Sung Il-hwan's hands, checking the steady pulse of celestial light beneath his knuckles before crossing to the balustrade where Cha Hae-in holds point. Your violet mana flares outward in a neat, sweeping arc, weaving directly over Hae-in's golden barriers until the entire southern flank seals tight against the overcast sky. Below, the hydraulic lift groans open to spit Baek Yoon-ho back onto the proving floor, drenched in sweat with his golden eyes smoldering in quiet fury as Jinho logs the final split. When you turn back to the monarch's chair, Jinwoo hasn't shifted an inch, his gaze tracking every line of your stride as Woo Jinchul silently marks the Association roster for the afternoon clash.

Yoo Jinho: "Baek hits the vault gate at 0.44 seconds—clear, but Hyung-nim's 0.08 baseline remains completely unbroken!"

Sung Il-hwan: "Your tea and consideration keep this old vessel steady, Yasmin. Do not fret over my core today."

Cha Hae-in: "Southern runic grid is locked and airtight, Yasmin. Not a single particle of rogue mana is slipping through."

Sung Jinwoo: "My eyes aren't going anywhere else, Yasmin. Let them log whatever numbers they want."

Claim your throne beside Jinwoo. Check Jinchul's afternoon roster. Toast Il-hwan's steady health.

You stride smoothly past the balustrade and sink directly into the sovereign seat beside Jinwoo, resting your shoulder flush against his dark tailored coat as his fingers naturally settle over your arm. Sung Il-hwan raises his steaming ceramic cup toward you with a proud nod, the celestial gold in his veins glowing calm and steady beneath his dark collar. Across the floor, Woo Jinchul keeps his distance by the opposite brass railing, holding the Association digital terminal upright without shifting an inch as seventy million broadcast optics lock onto the two of you seated together in sovereign stillness. Jinwoo doesn't spare the prying cameras a single look, his eyes fixed purely on you while the arena sensors below hum their final morning cooldown.

Sung Il-hwan: "Your tea and water keep this ancient core tempered, Yasmin. My pulse does not waver while you and my son hold the sky."

Woo Jinchul: "Association roster confirmed for 2 PM: Choi, Baek, and Liu will run the full gauntlet for tonight's elimination ballot."

Sung Jinwoo: "Sit back, Yasmin. Let the contenders exhaust themselves chasing 0.08 seconds before the afternoon rush even begins."

Yoo Jinho: "Get ready, everyone! When the afternoon Dungeon Rush officially kicks off, whoever beats the gauntlet wins the elimination ballot—and Boss holds the gavel!"

"Rest easy, Father." lean closer and whisper in Jinwoo's ear asking if he wants to sit on the rooftop for some fresh and time away to just relax for a break.

Il-hwan smiles with genuine, weathered warmth from his seat in the alcove, setting the warm ceramic cup aside as your words settle the room into an easier cadence. Leaning in, your lips brush the edge of Jinwoo's ear, the whisper of cold air and open sky instantly drawing another low, suppressed hum from the Shadow Monarch's chest. Woo Jinchul's pen hesitates over his Association clipboard at the opposite rail, his mirrored lenses angling down toward the two of you with stiff, unspoken resignation. The morning trials have wound down to a steady stillness, leaving the penthouse poised for the high-stakes gauntlet waiting just hours away.

Sung Il-hwan: "Go, child. Rest your wings; the old soldier can mind the gate while the two of you breathe."

Sung Jinwoo: "A few minutes above the clouds where no one can follow sounds perfect, Yasmin."

Woo Jinchul: "Keep your communications active, Hunter Yasmin—the 2 PM Dungeon Rush will not wait for sentimental retreats."

Yoo Jinho: "Rest up, Boss! When 2 PM rolls around, the Dungeon Rush officially begins and Choi, Baek, and Liu will tear that gauntlet apart for the ballot!"

"Agreed Jinchul. Its just a quick break to stretch." To Jinho: "Looking forward to it." Grab a fresh cup of tea for the walkup while taking Jinwoo's hand and slipping up to the roof. "Gosh the boys are on a short break but I'm getting grief for wanting to spend a 5-10 minute break with my own boyfriend is diabolical."

You slide your hand firmly into Jinwoo's, feeling the steady, freezing hum of his shadow mana settle warmly between your interlaced fingers as you draw him up from the throne. With your other hand, you snag a fresh, steaming porcelain mug from the side console, the scent of bergamot cutting cleanly through the lingering ozone of Baek's morning drills. Choi Jong-in's knuckles whiten slightly against his unlit brass lighter as he tracks your brazen exit, while Baek folds his scarred arms in tight, smoldering silence at the pit entrance. Jinwoo doesn't look at either of them, matching your unhurried stride toward the private rooftop spiral as seventy million live feeds broadcast the two of you leaving the contenders behind.

Woo Jinchul: "Ten minutes, Hunter Yasmin. At 13:55, Association protocol requires all contenders on the gate line."

Yoo Jinho: "Take your time, Boss! The arena recalibrates until two, and the broadcast audience is losing their minds watching you two!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Let them talk. Ten minutes above the perimeter is plenty."

"everyone is on a 10 minute break anyway. we'll be back on time. Scouts honor."

Steam curls off the rim of your fresh porcelain cup as your boots find the lower tread of the cast-iron spiral, Jinwoo's gloved fingers wrapped firm and unyielding around your own. Behind you, the central lounge falls into a muted, envious hush: Choi Jong-in turns away with an unlit lighter clicking sharply between his knuckles, while Baek Yoon-ho leans back against the perimeter pillar with an irritated, rumbling exhale. Woo Jinchul taps the digital timer once against his Association clipboard, conceding the threshold without another syllable as the low whine of broadcast optics fades beneath the open draft of the upper stairs. The morning session is officially behind you, leaving the contender line waiting in your shadow while the cool rooftop air whispers down from the open skydeck hatch.

Woo Jinchul: "The digital monitors will flash yellow at 13:55 sharp, Hunter Yasmin—I expect you at the spectator rail before Gate One cycles."

Yoo Jinho: "Have fun upstairs, Boss! At two o'clock the Dungeon Rush begins, and Choi, Baek, and Liu are tearing that course apart for the ballot!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Ten minutes is plenty of time to leave seventy million eyes behind, Yasmin. Let them count the seconds."

🌬️ step out onto the quiet roof

The heavy hatch swings open against the dull grey horizon, letting a wash of biting mountain air cut across your collarbones and whip loose strands from your bun. Behind you, the subdued grumbling of the lounge fades completely as the iron latch seats home with a solid, mechanical clack. Jinwoo doesn't drop your fingers for a second, stepping out beside you onto the open deck where the overcast sky hangs low and still over the city. Down below, Jinchul's digital chronometer ticks inexorably toward 13:55, but up here, there is nothing waiting on your pulse except the quiet cold and the man beside you.

Sung Jinwoo: "Ten minutes, Yasmin. The sky is completely ours."

Yoo Jinho: "Enjoy the breeze, Boss! The moment two o'clock hits, the Dungeon Rush begins and the contenders fight for that elimination vote!"

The Skydeck Gate Overlook — biting mountain wind and the hum of distant barrier runes.

The biting mountain wind sweeps across the open steel decking, carrying the clean bite of high altitude and the distant hum of the compound's runic barrier. Below, the broadcast speakers crackle to life as Jinho's voice echoes up from the atrium, outlining the afternoon trials to the entire assembled roster. Jinwoo leans his shoulder against the iron railing beside you, his dark coat parting slightly in the gust as his gaze remains steady on your face. The ten-minute reprieve is ticking down beneath an overcast sky, leaving the contenders lined up below while the rooftop stays entirely yours.

Yoo Jinho: "Attention hunters! Today’s 2 PM group task is the Dungeon Rush—everyone runs the course, clearing beasts and collecting loot, and the fastest split wins a direct vote on who faces elimination tonight!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Ten minutes on the clock, Yasmin—take the breeze while you have it, because the arena gates will open regardless of who is watching."

Woo Jinchul: "The Association monitors will log every contender's clear time to the hundredth of a second—no exceptions."

I just needed a moment away but i enjoy spending every moment with you. just as you and Jinwoo are heading down to leave you receive a call from Go Gunhee. You tell Jinwoo you need to take this call from a family member and for him to head back down to start the Dungeon Rush for you. As he leaves you go back to the call and say they havent figured out that you are his granddaughter yet but the team is doing as great as you told him they would and you ask him when hes coming.

The vibration against your pocket buzzes right as Jinwoo turns back toward the rooftop hatch, his gloved hand letting yours slip away with an easy, untroubled nod. He descends the spiral stairs alone, leaving you in the biting wind as the heavy steel door falls shut, muffling the intercom's brassy roar into distant static. Flipping open the encrypted Association terminal, the familiar seal of Go Gunhee flashes across the glass before the secure frequency clicks open. Leaning back against the icy iron rail, you bring the receiver to your ear where seventy million broadcast sensors cannot trace the line.

Sung Jinwoo: "Take your time. I'll make sure the gates don't open until you're back down."

Yoo Jinho: "Boss! We're lining up the brackets now—just say the word whenever you're ready!"

📞 "The team is solid—when are you coming?"

The heavy rooftop hatch clangs shut below, cutting off Jinwoo's quiet footsteps and leaving you wrapped in biting mountain wind against the cold steel balustrade. On the encrypted Association terminal, the gold seal flickers as Go Gunhee's low, gravelly tone crackles through the audio receiver, answering your question with measured authority. Down below in the open-air arena, the arena klaxons let out an ear-splitting howl as the gate runes ignite, pulling your eyes toward the courtyard where seventy million viewers wait on your descent.

Woo Jinchul: "The Chairman's escort cleared the southern highway minutes ago, Yasmin. Hold your position—we arrive when the gates cycle."

Yoo Jinho: "Boss! Sung is already stepping onto the arena sand—get down here before Gate One unlocks!"

📞 "Understood. See you at the gates."

The encrypted Association comm clicks dead, snapping your focus back to the sprawling arena bowl where the gate runes ignite in a blazing ring of sapphire fire. Far below on the blood-stained sand, Jinwoo draws his obsidian blade without looking up at the drones, his abyssal mana surging outward to lock the proving ground's telemetry pins in absolute sync with your heartbeat. Across the spectator balustrade, Woo Jinchul lowers his radio with his jaw clamped tight, while Cha Hae-in steps to the railing to track Jinwoo's shadow as it swallows the entrance arch. Every camera drone in the compound tilts skyward toward you on the overlook, waiting for the judge to authorize his split.

Woo Jinchul: "Keep the line clear, Yasmin—Chairman Go's convoy breaches the outer wards on my mark."

Yoo Jinho: "Round Two of the Dungeon Rush is live! Hunter Sung Jinwoo takes the gate for his formal bid!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Don't blink from up there, Yasmin. The vault core is already mine."

Head back down and sit in the Monarch's chair apologizing for taking the important call and Jinwoo's shadow tear the gate apart. "The best record is already set." Check the convoy coordinates again.

The iron hatch clangs shut behind your boots as you sweep down the spiral stairs, your tailored coat settling around your hips as you take your place directly in the high-backed Monarch's chair overlooking the arena sands. Below, the Gate Two portal shudders under a sudden geyser of pitch-black abyssal mist—Jinwoo’s shadows tearing the runic iron arch completely off its moorings in a fraction of a blink. Woo Jinchul’s pocket buzzes; he glances down at your recent text, adjusts his dark sunglasses with a barely perceptible twitch of his jaw, and angles his Association datapad toward you so the encrypted convoy coordinates flash green. Before the dust can settle from Jinwoo's 0.04-second demolition, Sung Il-hwan steps smoothly into the center chalk, twin short-swords glinting beneath the overcast sky as he offers you a solemn nod.

Sung Il-hwan: "Apologies for the delay, Yasmin—family obligations carry undeniable weight."

Yoo Jinho: "0.04 SECONDS! The gate was dismantled before the timers even registered! Hunter Sung Jinwoo utterly obliterates the run!"

Woo Jinchul: "The southern highway convoy just passed Sector 4 perimeter sensors. Five minutes out."

Sung Jinwoo: "Take your seat. The course is already cleared for whoever has the courage to follow."

"Father came to play. Unleash your passion!" tap jinchul: "keep the gate clear."

Your knuckles lightly rap the arm of the Monarch's chair, the low thud vibrating straight through the riser toward Woo Jinchul's station at the perimeter rail. The Chief Inspector catches the silent command instantly, his thumb sweeping across his datapad to lock the southern ward gates open without tipping off the seventy million viewers tracking the feed. Out in the center chalk, Liu Zhigang draws his twin curved dao blades with a theatrical flourish, razor-sharp wind pressure howling through the sand as Jinwoo stands motionless beside the crushed remains of Gate Two. Overcast clouds hang heavy above the compound rim, but every sensor drone remains glued to your hand resting flat over the glowing terminal glass.

Woo Jinchul: "Convoy telemetry is pinned, Yasmin. The outer perimeter won't flinch until your grandfather crosses the line."

Yoo Jinho: "Round Four! China's Hero Liu Zhigang takes the sand to see if anyone can touch the Monarch's split!"

Liu Zhigang: "Darling, after that shadow spectacle, a humble swordsman will just have to carve his own sky."

Sung Jinwoo: "Let him try. The benchmark doesn't move."

"Carve away Zhigang and make it pretty... introduce the world to seven stars!" Hae-in should receive an alert that makes her show you as she's worried its a breach. Lock eyes with Jinwoo and mouth "I love you."

Twin curved dao blades whistle into a blinding silver hurricane, slicing the proving ground sand into ribbons before Liu Zhigang plants both heels and sheathes his steel with a mocking, theatrical bow. Beside the viewing riser, Cha Hae-in stiffens as her Association receiver flashes crimson, stepping briskly to the edge of the Monarch's chair to tilt the vibrating glass screen into your line of sight. Woo Jinchul slides his phone into his coat with an imperceptible dip of his chin, having read your quiet thanks just as Jinwoo looks up from the crushed gate remnants. Across the distance separating sand and throne, your gaze catches his steady abyssal eyes, your lips shaping three silent words that draw a faint, possessive curve across his mouth.

Liu Zhigang: "Seven stars across the sky, darling—and every stroke belongs to the front row."

Cha Hae-in: "Yasmin-ah, look at this sensor spike—the outer barrier just groaned at the southern gate, and it's not a sanctioned gate reading."

Yoo Jinho: "Round Four logs at 0.28 seconds! A brilliant spectacle from China's Hero, but the Monarch's 0.04 still reigns supreme!"

Woo Jinchul: "I received the perimeter confirmation, Yasmin. The gates will open only for what belongs here."

Sung Jinwoo: "Let it scream. Nothing enters or leaves this arena without our leave."

"it's not a breach, Hae-in-it's family." Hold Jinwoo's gaze and signal the gate. everyone stop for a moment we have another important guest. Jinchul, go to the gate."

Cha Hae-in freezes with her datapad outstretched, the crimson alert reflecting across her wide, startled eyes as your words strip every shred of panic from the riser. Down by the lower railing, Woo Jinchul snaps his dark glasses into his breast pocket and pivots on his heel without waiting for an official override, his Association oxfords clicking sharply toward the blast gate stairs. Jinwoo never leaves your gaze; his mouth curves with absolute, unshakable possessiveness as his shadow pool surges silently across the sand to engulf the southern entryway. Across seventy million screens, the leaderboard timers freeze mid-flicker, leaving every hunter in the compound staring toward the rumbling compound threshold.

Cha Hae-in: "Family...? Yasmin-ah, you mean—"

Woo Jinchul: "Understood. Association protocol stands down; I'll receive Chairman Go at the threshold myself."

Yoo Jinho: "Hold the timers! Round Five is paused by direct order of the Sovereign seat—clear the south gate corridor!"

Sung Jinwoo: "Let them open the doors. My shadows will line his escort."

Descend to stand at Jinwoo's side. "Stand down and receive the Chairman. Hae-in, flank me at the gates."

Your boots ring against the iron tread of the spiral stairs, leaving the high-backed Monarch's chair behind to plant your stance directly at Jinwoo's right elbow. At your call, Cha Hae-in snaps into motion, her rapier held formal and low as she takes position at your left flank, closing ranks before the stunned spectator tier. Ahead, the massive hydraulic blast gates shudder and grind open along their iron tracks, parting to reveal Woo Jinchul saluting beside the sleek black armored limousine of Chairman Go Gunhee. The compound’s seventy million live drone feeds freeze their split-second leaderboards, all seventy lenses pivoting in absolute, suffocating silence to frame you, Jinwoo, and the arrival of the Hunter Association's supreme elder.

Cha Hae-in: "Understood. I have your left flank, Yasmin-ah."

Sung Jinwoo: "Let seventy million people watch how we receive family. They don't move past my soldiers."

Yoo Jinho: "Hold the floor, everyone! By order of the Tenth S-Rank, the gauntlet stands down—Chairman Go Gunhee's motorcade is clearing the threshold!"
